Remote Copies

Remote Copy configuration is a collection of replication groups that contain virtual volumes that are exposed to the ESXi hosts managed in a vCenter Server. These replication groups are called Remote Copy Groups in the HPE 3PAR, HPE Primera storage systems and as Replication Groups in HPE Nimble Storage systems.

RMC-V supports the following replication modes:

HPE 3PAR, HPE Primera HPE Nimble Storage
  • Synchronous

  • Asynchronous Periodic

  • Asynchronous Streaming

  • Synchronous Long Distance

Periodic

RMC Remote Copy Configuration supports only 1:1configurations. The 1:N and N:1 configurations are not supported.

NOTE: RMC-V prevents using volumes from a Remote Copy group as a VMDK to another VM, that is part of the same Remote Copy group. Also, a configuration where Remote Copy group volumes are attached as virtual or physical RDM to a VM, that is not part of the Remote Copy group is not supported. Remote snapshots are not supported on VMware virtual volumes.
