Cloning VMs or datastores from Copies of Protection Groups

This procedure is applicable only for Group-level consistency Protection Group Copies.

Procedure
  1. Navigate to the VMware resource.
  2. Right-click the VMware resource and then click HPE RMC-V Actions > Clone. Alternatively, you can also click Configure > HPE RMC-V Copies > Clone.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • Select a Copy from the displayed Copies.

    • Click Select From Date and then select a Copy from the list of available copies for the selected date. Click SELECT COPY.

  4. Select one of the following options and perform the corresponding steps based on your selection:
    Clone on Primary Storage Clone on Secondary Storage

    Creates a READ-WRITE Copy (virtual Clone) of an existing backup in the primary device or recreates new VMs (Clone) from a Copy.

    1. Select one of the options—Create Snapshot or Create New Storage Volumes.

    2. Select one of the following options and then click OK:

      • Clone only this resource—Clones the selected resource.

      • Clone the group—Clones all the resources in the group.

    3. Review the Host and VM details. If required, edit the VM Name.

    4. Turn on the Power toggle to power on the recreated VM.

    5. (Only for Create New Storage Volumes) Review the Volume details. Select a Volume.

    You can access backup copies as READ-Only (instant Clone) entities from HPE StoreOnce, without repopulating the primary disk array volumes. Use this option to quickly recover data from the backup copies.

    1. Review the Host and VM details. For datastore-level Copies, select the VMs that you want to register.

    2. If required, edit the VM Name.

    3. Turn on the Power toggle to power on the recreated VM.

    4. Turn on the IO Redirect toggle to redirect I/O to another datastore. Then select a datastore.

  5. Click NEXT.
  6. To perform only mount, select the Mount Only check box.
    1. Select one of the following options and perform the corresponding steps based on your selection:
      Mount On ESXi

      Attaches the Snapshot to ESXi host as a datastore.

      1. Select a host from the drop-down list.

      2. Click MOUNT.

      Attach to a Proxy Host

      Attaches the Snapshot to a host that the vCenter Server does not manage, but has access to the HPE storage arrays.

      1. Select a proxy host from the drop-down list.

      2. Click MOUNT ON PROXY HOST.

  7. Click NEXT.
  8. Click CLONE.
