Copy types in RMC

You can create application-consistent snapshots of VMware vSphere VMs, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange, Oracle, and SAP HANA databases residing on HPE 3PAR, HPE Primera volumes. All the RMC plug-ins are supported with HPE Nimble Storage. You can also create crash-consistent snapshots for any application or file system data on HPE 3PAR, HPE Primera and HPE Nimble Storage.

Express Protects backups provide a second-tier of data protection with backups directly from HPE 3PAR, HPE Primera or HPE Nimble Storage to HPE StoreOnce backup systems using Express Protect technology. Express Protects are block-level copies of volumes, de-duplicated to save space, and provide the capability to create fast and immediate backups and restore from historical snapshots and backups.

Catalyst Copies are the copies of Express Protect Backups on one or more remote HPE StoreOnce appliances. You can also create Copy for an existing Catalyst Copy.

Cloud Copies are Copies on HPE StoreOnce Cloud Bank Store or Cloud Volumes Backup (CVB). You can automate and schedule creating Cloud Bank Store Copies on a public cloud tier such as Amazon S3 or Microsoft Azure.

With Cloud Volume Backup as a storage device type, you can protect the on-premise data to HPE cloud using RMC. The Catalyst Store managed by HPE Cloud is called as Backup Store. A secure tunnel is created once the Catalyst Store is registered with RMC. For the devices registered with RMC, the data flows through a secure tunnel over Ethernet to HPE Cloud.

Clones are HPE 3PAR, HPE Primera READ-WRITE snapshots or HPE Nimble Storage Zero Copy Clones, which facilitates creating copies of your VM or database for test/dev or other secondary data use cases. Clones do not occupy any additional storage space or affect the performance of your production Copy.

The Peer Copy feature enables asynchronous periodic bidirectional replication between two or more homogeneous or heterogeneous storage systems. Peer Copy allows for one-to-many, many-to-one, and multihop topologies, managed from within the RMC GUI.

When you protect a Volume Set with Peer Copy, a Related Volume Set is created to represent the association between source Volume Sets and target Volume Sets. You can see the Related Volume Set in the Copies view.

Remote Copy Snapshots replicate data across the storage systems. RMC uses HPE 3PAR, HPE Primera and HPE Nimble Storage Virtual Copy and Remote Copy Software to create the instant point-in-time local and Remote Copy of the data.
