Creating a Peer PersistenceRemote Copy group

With a Peer Persistence Remote Copy group, both source and target volumes share the same WWNs.

For a single host site, create a unidirectional configuration so that all the primary volumes are on the primary or local storage system. For multisite host configuration, create a bidirectional configuration so that all the primary volumes associated to a particular host are on the local storage system.

Procedure
  1. On the HPE SSMC main menu, select Remote Copy Groups under DATA PROTECTION.
  2. Click + Create group or select Actions > Create.
  3. To enter information for the Source system, follow the instructions on the screen.
    1. Enter Group name.
    2. Select Create automatically for Remote virtual volumes to create volumes with a common WWN.
      NOTE:

Volumes with a common WWN are required.

    3. Select the User CPG for the user volumes and the Copy CPG for the replicated copies (snapshots).

As a best practice, use the same common provisioning group (CPG) for both the user and copy CPG.

    4. Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends selecting Enable for Auto synchronize.

This policy automatically recovers and synchronizes the virtual volumes in the Remote Copy group if a failover occurs.

  4. To enter information for the Target system, follow the instructions on the screen.
    1. Select Synchronous for Mode.
    2. Select the User CPG for the user volumes and the Copy CPG for the replicated copies (snapshots).

As a best practice, use the same CPG for both the user and copy CPG.

    3. To automatically start the Remote Copy group after it is created, select Yes for Start group after completion.
    4. To automatically restart the Remote Copy group after a link failure, select Advanced options at the top of the screen. Then select Auto recovery.
  5. Under Peer Persistence, select Path management.
    NOTE:

The Path management policy is required. The volumes in the Remote Copy group on the source system are considered Active and Standby on the target system.

  6. For an automatic transparent failover (ATF) configuration, select Auto failover.

When used with HPE Quorum Witness, the Remote Copy group automatically fails over if a failure occurs.

  7. Under Volume Pairs, click Add source volumes, and then follow the instructions on the screen.
  8. Click Create.
  9. For a multisite host configuration, create another group for bidirectional configuration.
