Asynchronous periodic

Automatic transparent failover (ATF)

An ATF automatically redirects host I/O from a failed primary storage system to the secondary storage system transparent to the host in an HPE Peer Persistence configuration.

Bidirectional

Remote Copy replication occurs in both directions. The systems in the Remote Copy configuration serve as both primary and secondary systems.

Failover

A failover changes the secondary Remote Copy groups on the target system to primary.

Primary system

The storage system contains the Remote Copy group from which data is replicated to a secondary system (target).

The primary system is also known as the source or local system. Primary and secondary roles can change, Remote Copy uses the term source system to refer to a storage system in a linked pair.

Primary-rev

Following a failover, the secondary system takes on the role of primary-rev indicating that it is now the primary storage system.

Quorum Witness

HPE Quorum Witness is a self-contained application that enables ATF in a Peer Persistence configuration.

Recover

Recover changes matching primary Remote Copy groups on the backup system to secondary groups and then starts and synchronizes all groups. Recover is used on Remote Copy groups in a failover state.

Remote Copy group

Restore

Restore returns all Remote Copy groups to the prefailover configuration. Restore is performed on Remote Copy groups in a failover or recover state.

Secondary system

The storage system, also called the target or remote system that contains the Remote Copy group to which data is replicated. The secondary system receives replication data from the primary system (source) and applies that data to the virtual volumes in a Remote Copy group.

The secondary system is also known as the target or remote system. Primary and secondary roles can change. The term target system is used to refer to the other storage system in a linked pair.

Secondary-rev

Following a recover operation, the primary system takes on the role of secondary-rev indicating that it is now the secondary storage system.

Source system

The system that generates the data and sends it to the target (either the primary or primary-rev system). The source system is also known as the primary system.

Switchover

A switchover swaps the Remote Copy group roles from primary to secondary without impacting the host IO. The primary Remote Copy groups become secondary and the secondary Remote Copy groups become primary.

Synchronous long distance (SLD)

A Remote Copy configuration with a primary system replicating to both a synchronous target system and an asynchronous periodic target system.

Target system

The system that receives the replicated data (either the secondary or secondary-rev system). The target system is also known as the secondary system.

Three data center Peer Persistence (3DC PP)

A Remote Copy Peer Persistence configuration with a primary system replicating to both a synchronous target system and an asynchronous periodic target system.

Unidirectional

Remote Copy replication occurs in one direction, from primary system to secondary system.
