Systems screen

A list of storage systems is displayed in the left pane. Select a storage system to display its details in the right pane or to perform an action on it.

Actions

Some actions might not be available due to system configurations, user roles, or properties of the selected resource. Possible actions include:

  • Edit

  • Locate, Stop locate

  • Tune, Refresh snapshot efficiency, Add license

  • Enable encryption, Export backup file, Restore backup file, Rekey encryption, Set EKM servers, Check EKM servers

  • Check health, Update HPE Storage OS, Update firmware, Collect support data, Reboot, Shutdown, Restart call home service

  • Set SP credentials

  • Administrator console

    NOTE:

The Systems screen displays the storage systems that are temporarily disconnected. The actions drop-down provide a link to the Administrator console for the disconnected storage systems. You can navigate to the Administrator console and take corrective actions to restore the connection. The Health panel in the Overview detail pane displays the connection status and reason for disconnection of the storage system.

You can select the locate actions from the Actions menu or click a UID/locator light icon ( ) in the list pane. The UID/locator light types can vary with storage system models, and use of the location feature can vary with user roles and domain permissions.) in the list pane. The UID/locator light types can vary with storage system models, and use of the location feature can vary with user roles and domain permissions.

Selecting views

You can click the pin icon () at the top right of the list to open the list View menu. Available list views include a compact view, Summary, Device Type Capacity, System Capacity, Ports, Physical Drives, Capacity Efficiency, Deduplication, Snapshot Efficiency, and Thin Reclamation.) at the top right of the list to open the list View menu. Available list views include a compact view, Summary, Device Type Capacity, System Capacity, Capacity Savings, Ports, Serviceability, Physical Drives, Snapshot Efficiency.

The default detail view is Overview. Other detail views include Configuration, Capacity, Capacity Savings, Capacity Forecasting, Encryption, System Reporter, Settings, Services, Software, Fabrics, Licenses, Layout, Analytics, Performance, Diagnostics, Activity, and Map. Learn more: Viewing System Reporter samples availability.

Tip: In the Capacity view, the Historical Capacity chart displays data only for storage systems that are running HPE Storage OS 3.2.1.12 or later.

Detail pane - Capacity view

By default, the detail pane Capacity view includes information for all available device types for the selected storage system. You can filter the information by selecting a device type in the menu that is located in the upper left corner of the detail pane.

Information for the Allocated Capacity chart includes the following:

Block: Space for Block Persona storage. This space includes capacity that is allocated to mapped block volumes, and excludes unmapped capacity.

File: Space for File Persona storage. This space includes capacity that is allocated to mapped file volumes, and excludes unmapped capacity.

System: Space that is allocated for system administration and spares. This space excludes spare used capacity that is already included in allocated file and block capacities.

Detail pane - Analytics view

The detail pane of the Analytics view displays the saturation levels, heat maps, and performance scores of a particular storage system in graphical format. The performance score depends on the saturation level of the specified storage system. The Advanced Analytics option in the Analytics view detail pane enables you to view the read and write throughput measured at 5-minute intervals. The observations are reported as column charts.

The Analytics view displays the charts for the following:
  • Saturation - Displays the changes in the level of saturation over time. The changes in the level of saturation over time include periods when the level of system saturation may have contributed to performance issues. The level of saturation represents the difference between the actual IOPs that are serviced and the optimal IOPs that the system can deliver based on the workload.

  • Read Latency - Displays the Read Latency trend for the selected system over a period of time.

  • Write Latency - Displays the Write Latency trend for the selected system over a period of time.

The factors that contribute to the peaks in the System Read and Write Latency are indicated by markers around the duration. On moving your cursor over the factor markers, the top System and Workload factors are displayed. The factors are displayed only for the 24-hour hi-res view. The factors reported for latency peaks are arrived by determining what correlates with the rise in latency values during a specific time period. This does not necessarily indicate that the factors reported are causing the latency spike. This information provides an idea of what workload or system factors might have changed in a way similar to how the latency also changed.

Detail pane - Saturation Forecasting view

The detail pane of the Saturation Forecasting view displays the saturation forecast for a selected storage system. The saturation forecast is calculated based on the prior two days of assessment period with one day forecast. You can calculate the forecast based on different assessment periods. The corresponding saturation forecast period for an assessment period is roughly half of the selected assessment period.

For example, if the forecast period is one week, the saturation forecast is based on two weeks of historical data displayed in two hours interval.

Detail pane - Diagnostics view

HPE SSMC runs the Check health command on a storage system in the background. Diagnostics checks the status of storage system hardware and software components and reports any issues. The Check health command is run internally on the storage system every four hours. HPE SSMC collects and displays the health information in the Diagnostics view.

Filtering and sorting

You can change the display of items by selecting a filter or by sorting on a column heading.
