Starting Peer Motion (host)

Tips

  • To migrate all of the volumes to a single destination, you only need to specify the storage system and common provisioning group on the Peer Motions Settings panel.

  • To migrate individual virtual volumes to other destinations, or change the properties of the destination virtual volumes, you can use the Virtual Volumes Settings panel.

  • You can select the Advanced options check box at the top of the dialog to display additional options on the Peer Motion Settings panel.

The action creates a Peer Motion activity that migrates the selected host and associated virtual volumes from the source storage system to a destination storage system. To navigate to Hosts screen and start peer motion operation for a host, do the following:

Procedure
  1. On the main menu, select Block Persona > Hosts.
  2. Click Start Peer Motion on the Actions menu.

    The Start Peer Motion dialog opens.

  3. Enter or select your choices for required and optional settings.
    General

    The format for the default activity name is: source-system-name_year-month-day_hour-minutes-seconds.

    Peer Motion Settings

    The virtual volumes will be migrated to the destination storage system and common provisioning group that you select.

    • If only one destination storage system and common provisioning group are available, they are automatically selected.

    • When multiple destinations are available—and you have already decided on the storage system and common provisioning group to use—you can select them. Or, to have a destination automatically selected, you can click Recommend destination.

    Virtual Volume Settings

    You can select the Edit virtual volume settings check box to display the virtual volumes in the Peer Motion migration.

    To change properties of a destination virtual volume, click its edit icon () and follow the instructions on the dialog that opens.) and follow the instructions on the dialog that opens.

    To see virtual volume details, click the expand icons ().).

  4. When you have completed your choices, click Start to start the action and close the dialog.
