Drive enclosures properties

Properties Description
Name

The name of the drive enclosure includes the location of the Smart Array controller it is attached to and the SAS ports.

For example, the internal drive enclosure of an HPE StoreEasy 1660 is named 0_1I:1,0_2I:2,0_3I:3 where:
  • 0 indicates that the Smart Array controller is in slot 0.

  • 1I, 2I, and 3I indicates the three internal SAS ports.

  • 1, 2, and 3 indicates three boxes.

For example, an external drive enclosure is named 1_1I:1 where:
  • 1 indicates that the Smart Array controller is in slot 1.

  • 1I indicates one external port.

  • 1 indicates one box.

State

Health state of the drive enclosure.

  • Healthy: The drive enclosure reports a healthy state. There are no observable issues with the hardware.

  • Warning: The drive enclosure reports a degraded state. There are hardware issues that hinder the enclosure to operate properly. Typical causes for a degraded state are power supply failures, failed cables, or failed fans.

  • Critical: The drive enclosure reports a critical state and the issue requires immediate attention. Refer to the health state message to identify the needed action.

Usage Intended usage of the drive enclosure. For example, unrestricted, reserved for replication, or reserved for sparing.
Port The port number on the Smart Array controller where the drive enclosure is attached, enabling communication between the two devices.
Box

If the drive enclosure is separated into multiple, logically separated drive cages on the same port, the drive cage is referred to as a box. Each cage has a numerical value that is identified by each of the cable connections to the controller or SAS expander. Based upon the cabling configuration, the number of cages (boxes) can change.

For example, the internal drive enclosure of an HPE StoreEasy 1660 contains 3 boxes.

Firmware Version The version of the firmware installed on the drive enclosure.
Manufacturer The name of the drive enclosure manufacturer. HPE StoreEasy Storage system supports HPE drive enclosures only. Use this property to identify any non-HPE device so that it can be removed.
Model The HPE StoreEasy drive enclosure model name. The name can help you quickly identify the type of drive enclosure being used. Internal drive enclosures use the name of the HPE StoreEasy Storage system. For example, HPE StoreEasy 1660.
Total Physical Drives The total number of populated drive slots in a drive enclosure.
Unallocated Physical Drives The total number of physical drives in the enclosure that are not yet consumed by arrays (RAID groups).
Arrays The name of the arrays associated with the drive enclosure.
