About compute plane

HPE Telco Blueprint compute plane consists of NSX-T Edge Virtual Machines and workloads.

Edge VMs are deployed in VM form factor.

The following table provides the segregation of management and data traffic:

Role

Management Traffic

Data Traffic

Resource Edge Pod

1 x HPE Ethernet 10/25Gb 2-port 640FLR-SFP28 Adapter

2 x HPE Ethernet 10/25Gb 2-port 661SFP28 Adapter

SR-IOV Pod

1 x HPE Ethernet 10/25Gb 2-port 640FLR-SFP28 Adapter

2 x HPE Ethernet 10/25Gb 2-port 661SFP28 Adapter

In Resource Edge Pod, there is one vSphere Distributed Switch (VDS) for Management Traffic and two NSX-controlled vSphere Distrbuted Switch (Enhanced) (N-VDS(E)) switches for Data Traffic.

In SR-IOV Pod, there are two VDS. One for Management Traffic and the other for Data Traffic.

VDS configuration for Resource Edge and SR-IOV Pod - Management Traffic

This VDS has two uplink ports. They are connected with physical adapters listed in the table. The VDS switch is configured with load balancing option. The corresponding VDS uplinks are placed in active adapter option.

Traffic is distributed between the physical NICs based on the load balancing algorithm configured on the VDS. The VDS switch is configured with "Route based on originating virtual port" as the default load balancing algorithm.

N-VDS(E) configuration for Resource Edge Pod - Data Traffic

This N-VDS(E) has two uplink ports. They are in LACP lag and are connected with physical adapters listed in the table. The lag configuration has LACP Mode as Active, LACP Load Balancing algorithm as source and destination MAC.

VDS configuration SR-IOV Pod - Data Traffic

This VDS has four uplink ports. They are connected with physical adapters listed in the table. The configuration on the VDS switch with load balancing option is Route based on originating virtual port. The corresponding VDS uplinks are placed in active adapter option.
