Post Installation Configuration

At the outset, management vCenter server is installed on datastore. Since ESXi is installed on USB for this solution, datastore is not created on ESXi. Hence, automation creates a datastore named datastore1 prior to installing management vcenter server on one ESXi host in management pod.

Once vsanDatastore is configured, storage of management vcenter server is migrated from datastore1 to vsanDatastore, which makes datastore1's disk free. This free disk can be added to vsanDatastore.

Post successful deployment of vCloud autodeploy command, perform the following tasks to migrate database VMs and datastore deletion. This procedure also ensures that the free disk is added to vsanDatastore.

Prerequisites
  • vCloud must be successfully deployed.

Procedure
  1. Log in to management vcenter server from web browser as an administrator.
  2. Navigate to Storage.
  3. Select datastore1 and click VMs tab. The VMs tab lists all the VMs running on that datastore.

In the example provided, vio-DB-0 vm is running on datastore1.

  4. Migrate all the VMs running on datastore1 to vsanDatastore using the following steps:
    1. Navigate to Hosts and Cluster section, select the corresponding VM, right click on the VM and select MIgrate.
    2. Select Change storage only to migrate VMs storage from datastore to vSAN and click Next.
    3. Select the vsanDatastore and click Next
    4. Click Finish to start migration and wait for the process to complete.
  5. After all the VMs running on datastore1 is migrated to vsanDatastore, right click on datastore1 and click Delete Datastore.
  6. Navigate to Hosts and Clusters > Management cluster > Storage > Rescan Storage.
  7. Select scan for new storage devices and click OK.

vSAN for this cluster is configured to automatically claim all free disks. Once the scan is completed the free disk is added to vSAN cluster.

  8. For verification, clickManagement cluster > configure > vSAN > Disk Management. In Disks in use column for each ESXi server, all the disk must be claimed in Disk group.
