Recommended memory specifications

The following table provides information on the memory specifications that have been validated as part of a blueprint, reason to consider them, and customization options.

Controller

HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen10 Servers with dual socket Gen2 Intel Xeon scalable family processors

Validated Configuration

  • Controller nodes are allotted single rank DIMM, 96GB (12x8GB)

  • For multiple processor installations, DIMMs were evenly split across the processors.

Blueprint design consideration

Six DIMMs with highest rank in first DIMM slot of each channel of a processor is populated

Customization option

  • In HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen10 , the DIMMs are populated in multiples of 6 slots per CPU.
    • Minimum DIMM per CPU = 6

    • Maximum DIMM per CPU = 12​

    • Memory support for 2nd Gen CPU : 6-Channel DDR4 @ 2933 MT/s.

  • Use 1.5 GB of memory per vCPU.

    For example, a machine with 48 vCPUs must have 72 GB of RAM

For specific customized hardware components, select from the hardware list in the HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen10 Server QuickSpecs available

However, ensure that your choices meet the minimum requirements specified by Red Hat in Director Installation and Usage document.

HPE ProLiant m510 Xeon Servers with single socket Intel Xeon scalable family processors

Validated Configuration

  • Controller nodes are allotted dual rank DIMM, 128GB (4x32GB)

  • HPE SmartMemory DDR4 ECC Registered (RDIMM)

Blueprint design consideration

Based on the per channel rules, four DIMMs with highest rank in DIMM slots in each channel of a processor is populated

Customization option

  • HPE ProLiant m510 Xeon Servers , the DIMMs are populated in 4 slots in CPU.
    • Maximum DIMM per CPU = 4

    • Channels per processor = 2

    • DIMMs per channel = 2

  • Use 1.5 GB of memory per vCPU.

    For example, a machine with 48 vCPUs must have 72 GB of RAM

You can choose from the list available in HPE ProLiant m510 Server Cartridge

However, ensure that your choices meet the minimum requirements specified by Red Hat in Recommendations for Large Deployments document.

Storage - Ceph

HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 Servers with dual socket Gen2 Intel Xeon scalable family processors.​

Validated Configuration

  • Ceph Storage nodes are allotted single rank DIMM, 96GB (12x8GB)

  • For multiple processor installations, DIMMs were evenly split across the processors.

Blueprint design consideration

  • Six DIMMs with highest rank in first DIMM slot of each channel of a processor is populated

  • In HPE ProLiant DL380 NEBS max = 16 drives, augmented by P816i-a SR array controller

Customization option

  • In HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 , the DIMMs are populated in multiples of 6 slots per CPU.
    • Minimum DIMM per CPU = 6

    • Maximum DIMM per CPU = 12​

    • Memory support for 2nd Gen CPU : 6-Channel DDR4 @ 2933 MT/s.

  • Red Hat recommends a baseline of 16 GB of RAM per OSD host with an additional 2 GB of RAM per OSD daemon.

  • It is recommended to allocate a minimum of 4% of total cluster OSD capacity with the high-speed drives for WAL/RocksDB.

DL380 non-NEBS can accommodate more than 16 drives. This option will require SAS enablement kit to support additional drives​​
NOTE:

Ensure the additional SSD drives are added as per the number of the storage HDD drives. The recommended HDD:SSD ratio is 6:1.

    • Memory support for second generation CPU : 6-Channel DDR4 @ 2933 MT/s

  • Red Hat recommends for computes to use a minimum of 6GB RAM. Add additional RAM to this requirement based on the amount of memory that you intend to make available to virtual machine instances.

    • Minimum DIMM per CPU = 8,

    • Maximum DIMM per CPU = 16

    • Supported Memory : HPE 32GB (1x32GB) Dual Rank x4 DDR4-2666

  • Red Hat recommends for computes to use a minimum of 6GB RAM. Add additional RAM to this requirement based on the amount of memory that you intend to make available to virtual machine instances.

  • It is recommended to allocate a minimum of 4% of total cluster OSD capacity with the high-speed drives for WAL/RocksDB.

    • Maximum DIMM per CPU = 12

    • DIMMs per channel = 2

  • Use 1.5 GB of memory per vCPU.
