Red screen error on iLO console of a server due bad entry in OS boot

Symptom

In certain scenarios, a red screen error is displayed on the iLO console of a server because of a bad entry in the OS boot.

Cause

The probable cause is that the OS was deleted but the UEFI boot entry still exists. Even after deleting the bad OS boot entry from the UEFI boot options, this error may still persist.

Action
  1. Log in to iLO of the server. The iLO Administrator user credentials are available in your Input JSON file.
  2. Click iLO Overview > Integrated remote console > .Net.

    The Application Run appears.

  3. Click Run.
The iLO Integrated remote console window is displayed.
  4. To reboot the server, from the Power Switch drop-down menu, select Reset.
After the successful reboot of the server, the Power-On-Self-Test (POST) screen is displayed.
  5. To view the System Utilities window, press F9.
  6. Navigate to System Configuration > BIOS/Platform Configuration (RBSU) > Boot Options > UEFI Boot Settings > UEFI Boot Order Control.
  7. Clear the check box corresponding to the bad OS boot entry.
  8. Save the changes and restart the server.
