Prerequisites

For a controller in a production environment, Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends the following hardware:

  • A minimum of 16 GB of RAM (used and free combined)

  • 8 CPUs

  • 150 GB of disk space available on your system for controller operation

[NOTE: ]

NOTE: Controllers in a development and test environment have lower hardware requirements. Larger environments may have higher requirements.

For the system where you install the controller toolkit, Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends the following hardware:

  • 1 CPU

  • 4 GB of RAM

  • 40 GB of disk space

The supported hypervisor for deploying the controller virtual appliance and the toolkit virtual appliance is VMware vCenter (ESXi 5.5.0 and later, running in vCenter 5.5.0 and later, using VM hardware version 8 through version 11).

[IMPORTANT: ]

IMPORTANT: If you are doing a controller installation or upgrade using the controller Debian software download, it requires a system with Ubuntu version 14.04 LTS. When installing Ubuntu, do not use “sdn” and “sdnadmin” for user or group names, as these credentials are created during the controller installation process. Using these for user or group names for Ubuntu, before installing the controller, will cause the controller installation to fail.

For complete requirements, see the latest HPE VAN SDN Controller and Applications Support Matrix available at www.hpe.com/info/sdn/infolib (scroll down to Installation). The HPE VAN SDN Controller and Applications Support Matrix includes the following:

  • minimum hardware, firmware, and software requirements for installing the controller

  • supported OpenFlow versions

  • SNMP information

  • supported network switches

  • configuration maximums
