Configuration prerequisites

Before configuring a static route, complete the following tasks:
  • Configure the physical parameters for related interfaces.

  • Configure the link-layer attributes for related interfaces.

  • Configure the IP addresses for related interfaces.

The number of IPv4 and IPv6 static routes that can be configured is limited to 16K combined.

For the 6300 and 6400 switches, the number of route prefixes can be stored in the routing table, depending on the prefix mask length (data set) being used (for example, /8, /16, /24, etc.). These switches do not support IPv6 addresses with prefixes greater than 64, and for prefixes between 65 and 127 will be software-forwarded.
