BFD features

BGP, OSPFv2, OSPFv3, PIM, static routes, and VRRP are clients of BFD.

Supported:

  • BFD v1

  • Asynchronous mode + echo

  • IPv6 (8400 switches only)

  • Asynchronous mode on IPv6 in IPv6 tunnel interfaces (8400 switches only)

  • Single hop

  • IPv4

  • RoP, SVI, and LAG interfaces

  • VSX synchronisation. For more information, see the Virtual Switching Extension (VSX) Guide for your switch and software version.

Not supported:

  • MIB support

  • IPv6 (832x switches only)

  • Demand mode

  • Micro-BFD

  • Authentication

  • Echo function on tunnel interfaces (832x switches only)

  • Asynchronous mode on tunnel interfaces (832x switches only)

  • Multi-hop configurations. BFD works only for directly connected neighbors. BFD neighbors must be no more than one IP hop away.

  • Loopback, passive, and virtual link interfaces
